Ravens may finally part with Mark Andrews in proposed trade with NFC contender

End of an era, potentially.

The first month of the 2025 season has not gone according to plan for the Baltimore Ravens. The team is 1-3 and while they also bounced back from a poor start to the season last year, this time around feels much different.

The Ravens have been ravaged by injuries and that could lead to them actually being sellers when it comes to the trade deadline. In their one trade every NFL team could make article, Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated proposed that the Ravens trade away fan favorite Mark Andrews. In this scenario, they had Baltimore shipping Andrews to Seattle in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

"The Ravens might be cursed this year, and unloading a 30-year-old, soon-to-be free agent for a draft pick may be wise. Baltimore also has Isaiah Likely, who is clearly Andrews’s successor. With Likely now healthy from a broken foot, Andrews is expendable. He also has 15 catches for 128 yards, and would be an upgrade in Seattle over AJ Barner."

While it'd be sad (and strange) to see Andrews in another NFL uniform, this could make sense for Baltimore. As the blurb noted, Andrews is 30 years old, set to hit free agency, and the Ravens have someone capable of replacing his production in Isaiah Likely. Only getting a sixth-round pick in return would feel like a low-ball offer but at least it'd be something.

Andrews would also have the chance to play for a Seahawks team that is 3-1 and looking like they could push for a playoff spot. He'd be a big help for Sam Darnold in Seattle and could potentially play his way into getting another nice contract from someone with a nice performance with his new hypothetical team.

Ravens might need to consider trading Mark Andrews if things don't improve

The hope is obviously that the Ravens can figure things out and somehow salvage this season. We're only a month into the regular season but, again, the injuries have shown they might be tough to get by. Even if the Ravens were to get back in the division race (which wouldn't be the craziest scenario considering how weak the rest of the division looks this year), trading Andrews still could make sense given his age and that he's not under contract next year.

Andrews was a third-round pick by the Ravens in 2018 and by his second year in the league, he was already one of the best tight ends in the NFL. He found the end zone 10 times that year and two years later, he put together his best year to date, tallying over 1,300 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Even last year when Andrews "only" had 673 yards, he still scored a career-high 11 touchdowns. This is why if the Ravens do trade Andrews, they need to try to get better draft capital for him than the sixth-round pick Verderame and Manzano floated here. Otherwise, it might seem like Baltimore got fleeced a bit.

It'd be a weird sight to see Andrews playing elsewhere but if the season continues to spiral out of control the way it has so far, it might make sense for Eric DeCosta to field calls from interested teams.
