Ravens quietly escape big NFL trouble for Lamar Jackson situation

Feels like the punishment could have been much worse.

The Baltimore Ravens found themselves in a bit of hot water after their Week 8 matchup against the Chicago Bears for their injury report. The Ravens had incorrectly listed Lamar Jackson's practice participation last Friday, listing him as a full participant in practice and giving him a 'Questionable' designation for the game.

One day after the initial incident took place, the Ravens then walked it back and said that Jackson should have been listed as a limited participant since he didn't do his full practice routine. He was also ruled out for the game then as well.

The Ravens went on to beat the Bears with Tyler Huntley at the helm, and head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that it was "an honest mistake" and that the Ravens were not trying to gain any advantages.

Ravens fans wondered what type of punishment the NFL would give the team for this and we don't have to wonder anymore. The league has announced that the Ravens will be fined $100,000, which, to be perfectly honest, feels like a light sentencing considering the circumstances.

The Ravens released a statement after the punishment was announced, which you can read below.

Ravens avoid major NFL punishment over Lamar Jackson injury issue

It really does seem as though this was an honest mistake but it's understandable why the Bears or other people/teams might have seen this as a way to gain an edge. The Ravens are a much different team with Jackson than without so, yes, his injury designation very much could have played a factor in the Bears' game plan and threw things out of whack when they found out that designation and report was incorrect.

Fortunately, the league did not see this as something the Ravens did on purpose and they seemingly got a slap on the wrist. Now we can go back to focusing on the Ravens' two-game winning streak and shifting focus on making it three in a row when they play the Vikings in Week 10.
