The Baltimore Ravens are entering the 2025 season as arguably the most talented team in the NFL, and the year won’t be a success for them unless it ends with a Super Bowl victory. When those are the expectations for a team, it’s hard for them to have any surprisingly good performances. Everyone expects the team to be good, so they expect the players to excel individually as well.
However, Baltimore does have a few guys who are being overlooked, and could end up being significant contributors in 2025. Those overlooked guys could be because they are rookies, burried on the depth chart, or coming back from injury. Whatever the reason, they will have the opportunity to prove themselves in training camp and carve out a role on this talented team.
One player who could do that is rookie receiver LaJohntay Wester. Joining an already talented offense, Wester could still find a way to make noise in year one.
LaJohntay Wester is a name to watch heading into Ravens training camp
Baltimore selected Wester in the sixth round of the 2025 Draft, but with Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and DeAndre Hopkins as the top receivers, in addition to the team’s two productive tight ends, the rookie receiver isn’t entering year one with high expectations. However, he has a skill set that will be hard to ignore.
Simply put, Wester gets open and catches the ball. He displayed that at FAU in 2023, catching 108 passes, and it was also on display at Colorado last season, when he became a go-to receiver for Shedeur Sanders alongside Travis Hunter. Sanders has frequently talked about how comfortable he was targeting Wester, because he knew the shifty wideout would get open.
With his speed, quickness, and elite route-running ability, getting open is definitely something that should translate to the NFL. Additionally, Wester is a dynamic returner. In his final two collegiate seasons, he returned 23 punts for 386 yards and two touchdowns. That alone should secure him a spot and role on the Ravens, and in due time, he’ll be incorporated into the offense as well.
