Stunning Todd Monken buzz stirs a new layer of uncertainty for Ravens' offense

That's a shock.

The Baltimore Ravens' 2025 season has been one of endless disappointment. As a result, there is a ton of uncertainty facing the team moving forward.

Franchise cornerstones in quarterback Lamar Jackson and safety Kyle Hamilton are expected to lead their respective units for the foreseeable future, but it is fair to imagine how many changes will be made after a disastrous campaign. One area that could see drastic revisions is the coaching staff.

All year, Ravens fans have been calling for Head Coach John Harbaugh to be fired. While Harbaugh quieted that chatter after a miraculous midseason turnaround, he fell right back on his old ways after blowing an 11-point lead in a morale-shattering Week 16 loss to the New England Patriots. The same can be said for Defensive Coordinator Zach Orr, whose lack of aggressiveness on defense has led to problems in their recent stretch.

Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken has also had trouble leading his unit. The offense has been stagnant, and even when Jackson has been healthy, Monken has faced constant questions on his playcalling and game plans.

While there have been no reports about Monken being on the hot seat, it sounds like a job could be calling elsewhere. After the University of Michigan fired its Head Coach Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines have been feverishly searching for his replacement. Monken could be an option.

Ravens facing uncertainty surrounding Todd Monken

According to John Brice and Doug Samuels of FootballScoop, Monken is a name that Michigan has reached out to. They wrote:

“Multiple sources, at both the collegiate and NFL levels, shared with FootballScoop Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night that Michigan had begun vetting current Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and intended to speak this week with Monken.”

Brice and Samuels also addressed the ongoing situation with the Ravens, as they stare down one of their most disappointing seasons in franchise history.

“Though the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday saw six players selected to the NFL Pro Bowl, the franchise is on the cusp of missing the AFC Playoffs and has, increasingly in recent weeks, been subjected to considerable discussion and NFL reporting on expected "major changes" in the organization.”

Monken is far from the only candidate for Michigan’s head coaching gig, but given his success at Georgia, which included two National Championships, and his recent success with the Ravens, he should be at the top of the list if both sides have significant interest. Throw in Michigan’s storied success, and Monken would be taking another significant step in his coaching career.

If Baltimore were to lose Monken this offseason, it could kickstart a great deal of changes on offense. Obviously, they already have centerpieces like Jackson, running back Derrick Henry, and wide receiver Zay Flowers, but several areas need improvement, including receiver depth and offensive line.

Regardless, it could be for the better, seeing how the offense grew stagnant for most of 2025.
