The Baltimore Ravens had their hands full trying to defeat Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills with everyone playing at peak efficiency. What they didn't need was Tre'Davious White, formerly a Bills standout cornerback, to stink up the joint in tandem with some more poor officiating.
With the Ravens trailing 14-10 after a Lamar Jackson fumble led to a Bills touchdown and poor red zone play-calling led to a field goal, Baltimore had a golden opportunity to force Buffalo into a long field goal attempt. Unfortunately, the officials saw White make a mistake that made some wonder if he was doing his old team a solid.
White was called for a very touchy pass interference penalty that, in all likelihood, may have been called correctly in an extremely pedantic and technical interpretation of the rulebook. This phantom call led to a Bills touchdown that put them up 21-10, which could be a death knell for Baltimore.
Ravens cornerback Tre'Davious White gifts old Bills team easy TD
The sharp regression of Brandon Stephens and Baltimore's refusal to put T.J. Tampa in the lineup alongside fellow rookie Nate Wiggins has created an opening for White. Unfortunately, the former All-Pro cornerback is looking more like the guy the Rams gave up on rather than an impactful player.
White has graded out as a poor cornerback in pretty much every aspect of playing the position during his stint with Baltimore, and the Bills know that. Even with limited receiving talent, the Bills may be able to pick up a few more big plays by picking on White throughout the course of this game.
Even if Jackson is able to will them back into the game, the Ravens' once mighty defense is starting to regress to their early-season form. The Bills seem to have learned from their mistakes earlier in the season, while Baltimore is still flailing.
The Ravens may end up making a game of this yet, and White's mistake could end up being a footnote that no one remembers, but it seems like White is indirectly giving his old running mates a boost here.
