Tyler Loop’s rookie campaign with the Baltimore Ravens ended in disaster. With the season on the line in 2025, the moment got to him, as he missed a 44-yard field goal in Week 18 as time expired.
Ending your debut season with that much sitting on your shoulders is truly unfair. A lot has changed around the team between now and then, but a ton of questions continue to loom around Loop. He needs to have a short memory and turn a corner in 2026.
Thankfully, the Arizona product is making the adjustments that the Ravens want to see from him. After an up-and-down start to training camp, Loop put on a show in Thursday’s practice with a perfect 7-for-7 day. Best of all, he booted some impressive kicks from range: his biggest area of concern.

When a young player like Loop is put in a situation like this, his true colors will start to show. After ending his rookie year with a season-ending blunder, it was sink-or-swim time for Loop. Either give in to the pressure and fade away, or use that memory as fuel to deliver a strong showing; it appears he is leaning into the latter.
A potential Loop breakout would be one of the biggest wins of Baltimore’s offseason. Kicking doesn’t get the respect it deserves a lot of the time, but the truth is, kickers are a crucial part of both the offense and defense.
On offense, the goal is obviously to score points. Drives are going to stall, though, and having a consistent kicker to rely on and put three points on the board keeps the ball rolling and teams in games. Loop adding the ability to hit from 50-plus to his game, which is an area he was just 1-for-4 last year, would also take a huge amount of pressure off the offense’s shoulders.
Then there’s Loop’s kickoff problems, and boy, were those apparent in 2025.
He led the NFL in kickoff penalties, often falling short of the landing zone. In turn, Loop giving opposing offenses terrific starting field position added to the roller coaster of problems that Baltimore’s abysmal defense endured last season. Those struggles must be something that the second-year pro shakes off in 2026.
Of course, the entire game changes when there’s a massive crowd in the mix. You really can’t prepare for that kind of noise until you step foot onto the field in the regular season. Loop had a rough 1-for-3 day during Baltimore's biggest practice of the year at the University of Maryland, so hopefully he can keep stacking days and building confidence before he has to show out in front of a packed house again.
