New Draft Writer
Ladies and gents, I am proud to announce the newest member of the EbonyBird.com staff. Becoming our resident draft specialist is Daniel Radov, a sportswriting wunderkind. A nationally syndicated sportswriter for SI Kids last year, Daniel, just 16 years old, will be the man behind EbonyBird.com’s draft coverage. Along with his work for SI Kids, Daniel founded NextGenSports.net, a site covering the brightest young stars in sports. With NGS on hiatus, Daniel brings his talents to the EB. Look for his big boards, mock drafts, and weekly “What To Watch For” posts as the college football season draws to a [...]
Midseason Awards: Special Teams MVP
From Wednesday to Sunday of this snooze-inducing bye week, we’re evaluating the performances of several Ravens thus far in the season to determine our “EbonyBird.com Midseason Awards” winners. Today, the Special Teams MVP. Special teams is the most underrated aspect of any sport, in my humble opinion. “Football is a game of inches”. You’ve probably heard it thousands of times in your football-watching career, and don’t expect for it to stop being said, because it’s absolutely true. Inches away from a first down, from a touchdown, from making a field goal. What better way to get those inches, or prevent [...]
No, it’s not a scam like those spam emails you get from the African princes, nor is it a ponzi scheme. Basically, if you’re more clever than every other NFL fan living in a city that is not the city the team plays in (don’t worry, I’ll clarify in a second), you could win an all-expense paid trip to Dallas in February to (hopefully) see the Ravens take home their second Lombardi Trophy. How? Why? Details after the jump.
Midseason Awards: Top Rookie
From Wednesday to Sunday of this bye week, we’re evaluating the performances of several Ravens players thus far in the season to determine our “EbonyBird.com Midseason Awards” winners. To start the award parade, we announce the top rookie. As far as rookies go for the Ravens, the key word has been “injury”. Top pick Sergio Kindle was lost for the season to a fractured skull. Fellow 2nd-round pick Terrence “Mount” Cody missed the team’s first three games with a knee injury, and the effects of it still seem to be lingering. And showing that late-round picks can get injured too, [...]
Midseason Awards Week
Heading into the bye week with seven games played, the Ravens have put together an impressive performance, earning five wins and the second-place position in the AFC North. While football is the quintessential team game, there are always individual players who stand out. Because the Ravens have a bye this week, we’ll turn the week into “EbonyBird.com Midseason Awards Week”, where we share our opinions on the players that have had the best seasons thus far. Info about the awards and the schedule after the jump.
The Day After: Ravens vs. Bills Thoughts
A win is a win. On a Sunday where Baltimore saw Ed Reed return in full force, a homeless-looking Harvard man had the game of his life. Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was on point yesterday afternoon, turning in another solid performance in this young 2010 season. Despite Fitzpatrick’s best efforts, the Bills could not pull off what would’ve been one of the NFL’s biggest upsets of the season thus far. Despite almost losing to the BUFFALO FREAKING BILLS, the Ravens had their fair share of bright spots in the game. Reed’s two interceptions were excellent. The first one started the [...]
And….We’re Back!
Sorry about the week without posting, it was a nightmare of a week, and blogging was not on the agenda. In addition, some posts that I planned to be automatically published did not work, and all kinds of terrible things happened over the last 8 days or so. I’m pleased to say that things are back to normal and you’ll be able to read my pointless drivel every day as you’ve always been used to.
Know Your Enemy: New England Patriots
In preparation for tomorrow’s game against the Patriots, we got in touch with Jamie Pacheco, the genius behind Musket Fire. I threw five questions about the Pats at Jamie, and he answers them after the jump. He also gave me five questions to answer, which you can see here.
The Day After: Ravens vs Broncos Thoughts
Heeeee’s baaaaaaaccckkkk. Deciding that after four games where he averaged 55 rushing yards per game and 68.5 total yards in each of those contests, Ray Rice had a monster day yesterday, rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns, and adding on a cool 26 receiving yards from four receptions. Showing all the signs of last year’s Pro Bowl campaign, Rice was cutting hard, turning plays that looked dead into sizable gains, and striking fear into the Broncos’ defense every play he was on the field. The 5’9″ Pro Bowler had 27 carries, the second-highest amount thus far in his short [...]
Week 5: Ravens vs Broncos Preview
Happy Sunday. After a game last week that may be one of the coolest wins in Ravens history, the team will face another tough test today, with the Denver Ortons coming to town. Kyle Orton, the quarterback who the team is named after, leads the NFL right now with 1,419 passing yards. In comparison, Joe Flacco has 920 yards through the air. Orton’s carried the Broncos to a 2-2 record, despite his team being dead last in rushing offense, and their defense giving up 21 points and 322 yards per game. Full preview and predictions, after the jump.
