Welcome to the Daily Caw, where we round up all the latest Ravens news from around the web for your convenient consumption.  Today we look at the major moves the Ravens made in the secondary yesterday, why this may be Terrence Cody’s last chance in a contract season, why Ricky Williams never returned to the team, and the Raven’s lack of playmakers.

Why Ricky Williams Never Returned to Baltimore

"When you think of Ricky Williams what’s the first thing you think of?His dreads? His affinity for marijuana?Probably not his 10,009 career rushing yards, right?During his final season in the NFL as a Raven in 2011, Williams was a very good complementary back to Ray Rice and was well liked in Baltimore and more importantly by his teammates where he rushed for 444 yards on 108 carries. He was welcomed back and initially wanted to return to the Ravens, inspired by the team’s resolve following a bitter defeat in the AFC Championship Game to the Patriots."

Ravens Shake Up Secondary

"The Ravens dramatically shook up their secondary two days after surrendering six touchdowns in Pittsburgh, releasing two cornerbacks and signing two more.Baltimore waived veteran cornerback Dominique Franks and claimed free-agent corner Danny Gorrer off waivers. Earlier in the day, the Ravens cut Chykie Brown and promoted Tramain Jacobs from the practice squad. That means the Ravens’ cornerbacks are now Lardarius Webb, Gorrer and Jacobs. Asa Jackson (toe) is on the reserve/injured – designated for return list. For now, Gorrer and Jacobs will battle for the starting job opposite Webb."

Terrence Cody Activated From PUP in Contract Season

"The Ravens have cleared the way for defensive tackle Terrence Cody to make his 2014 debut against the Tennessee Titans.Cody was moved to the active roster from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after returning to practice three weeks ago. To make room for Cody on the active squad, the Ravens cut tight end Phillip Supernaw.Activating Cody was just one of the transactions the Ravens made Tuesday, as they also cut cornerback Chykie Brown and promoted rookie Tramain Jacobs from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.Cody opened the year on the PUP list after having hip surgery this offseason, which was the second year in a row that he needed offseason hip surgery. The procedures were on different hips."

Ravens Lack Playmakers

"The Ravens were outplayed on the national stage of Sunday Night Football in Pittsburgh. Clearly that’s a statement of the obvious. And here’s another…John Harbaugh’s team lacks playmakers!"
