Baltimore Ravens fans have been clamoring for the team to go out and get a big time, number one wide receiver, whether it be through the draft or free agency. And it appears that Ozzie and company have granted their wish, acquiring a disgruntled Dez Bryant from the Dallas Cowboys in a stunning trade. Bryant was the first to break the news via his personal Twitter account.
"On my way to bring another championship to Baltimore! Grateful for my time with the Cowboys, but now it’s time to start a new chapter in life. #RavensNation #FlyFlaccoFly – @DezBryant"
Even more stunning than the actual trade are unconfirmed early reports that the Ravens gave up only a pair of seventh round picks for Bryant, yet again proving that Ozzie Newsome is the shrewdest deal maker in the NFL. It’s an incredibly cheap price to pay for a top flight NFL wide receiver, despite the baggage that comes with it.
Well known as an emotional player both on the sidelines and off the field, Bryant has been unhappy in Dallas since he learned the team was going to slap him with the franchise tag this offseason, which they were forced to do after failing to reach an agreement on a long term deal. The Ravens might not offer the talented Dez Bryant his best chance at getting paid max dollars, but they do present him with a much better shot at a Super Bowl ring.
It’s safe to say that the Ravens have filled a major need in an incredibly frugal manner, much like their acquisition of Eugene Monroe two years ago. Who knows how good this offense will be under new offensive coordinator Marc Trestman next season? I know one thing, and that is the fact that this entire story is fake! Happy April Fool’s Day from all of us at Ebony Bird, and we hope we didn’t get your hopes up too high!
