A lot of folks had their doubts that the Ravens would continue their commitment to the running game after they brought in pass happy Marc Trestman to be their new offensive coordinator.  Many have even speculated that Justin Forsett would have more of an impact in the passing game than the running game.

But no, this isn’t going to be Chicago east.  The Ravens said they would be a run first team in 2015, and their intentions were quite clear in week one of the preseason.  In fact, they ran the ball (39 times) more than they passed the ball (38 attempts).

Unfortunately, it only resulted in 2.7 yards per carry, but it’s still early and Forsett only carried the ball twice.  The first team offensive line is among the NFL’s very best, and they’ll pull it together by week one.

A couple of other pleasant takeaways from the Ravens’ win over the Saints included the performances of rookies Maxx Williams and Carl Davis.  Williams made a couple of nice plays, and Davis wound up playing into the 4th quarter, soaking up quality reps amid a ton of injuries along the d-line.

The Ravens notched a nice win to kick off the preseason and seem to have a solid foundation to build on before week one.
