1 winner (and 4 losers) for Ravens disastrous loss to the Lions

The Baltimore Ravens collapsed in the second half against the Detroit Lions in Week 3. They lost 38-30 and looked inept on the offensive and defensive ends.

What looked to be an instant classic Monday Night Football game quickly turned into the Lions taking control in the fourth quarter. It was another fourth-quarter collapse from a Baltimore team looking to compete for a Super Bowl in 2025.

Here is one winner and four losers from the Ravens’ Week 3 loss.

Winner: Mark Andrews

Tight end Mark Andrews was back to his Pro Bowl self on Monday, and he did so against a strong Lions linebacker and safety room. He beat safety Brian Branch for a huge gain early in the third quarter, and eventually hauled in a touchdown matched up against linebacker Alex Anzalone.

It looked like the classic Lamar Jackson to Andrews connection was in full swing. Andrews finished the night with six catches, 92 yards, and two touchdowns, and was the prime target when the offense was moving the ball.

Loser: Trenton Simpson

Linebacker Trenton Simpson is in the doghouse. There is no way around it. Ever since his special teams slip-up in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, his snap share has steadily decreased. On Monday night, he suited up, but was nowhere to be found.

Rookie linebacker Teddye Buchanan, despite some shaky play at times, has all but stolen the starting spot next to All-Pro Roquan Smith. Buchanan made some plays against Detroit, but also looked silly against Sam LaPorta in the run game, and running back Jahmyr Gibbs on passing attempts. He finished the night with seven tackles. Simpson, on the other hand, did not tally any stats.

Loser: Derrick Henry

Three straight weeks with a fumble for running back Derrick Henry. Two of those he has lost, and both have come in close games that proved to be backbreakers. This time it only led to three points, but it was the second time in just three weeks that the five-time Pro Bowler had turned the ball over in the fourth quarter.

This comes off another bad game from Henry. In Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns, he rushed for only 23 yards and failed to find the end zone. This past week, he accumulated 50 yards, but 28 of those came on one touchdown run, and all people will remember is his late-game fumble.

Loser: Zach Orr

The defense certainly struggled to find its identity without two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike, but they lost in all three phases on Monday night. Defensive Coordinator Zach Orr’s struggles to stop the NFL’s best offenses are becoming a common theme. He once again could not stop a nosebleed vs. the Lions.

Baltimore did not get a sack. Baltimore could not stop the run. Baltimore could not cover. Detroit picked them apart in every way possible, and the defense that is supposedly loaded with talent looked incompetent on Monday Night Football.

As if the Ravens’ Week 1 defensive disaster class was not enough, his unit’s showing against the Lions has officially put him on the hot seat.

Loser: Broderick Washington Jr.

Sixth-year defensive tackle Broderick Washington Jr. had a chance to prove himself in Week 3. Without Madubuike, Washington was expected to play a crucial role. He was not up to the task.

Washington was nearly invisible. Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery knifed through the defense on nearly every carry, and the defensive line failed to collapse the pocket. They even somehow failed to contain Jared Goff at times. The duo finished with 218 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Washington is a cut candidate in the 2026 offseason, and with each passing game, it looks extremely likely that will be the case.

The Ravens will look to bounce back in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
