Ravens Will Likely Lose Ben Grubbs

The Baltimore Ravens have little cap space this offseason. With Ray Rice’s franchise tag and the soon to be contract extension for Joe Flacco, the Ravens will be hard pressed to retain many of their key players from the 2011 campaign. With Flacco soon to be taken care of, Grubbs becomes the Ravens number one free agent in terms of talent. Many teams in need of interior line help will offer him a lot of cash and it may be hard for the Ravens to counter. Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh said that they’ll try their very best to retain him but realistically, it just doesn’t seem possible.

I see the Dallas Cowboys making a big push for Grubbs as they desperately need help on the o-line. Their cap situation isn’t terrible and signing Grubbs is a very possible scenario. If Grubbs was willing to take a hometown discount to stay with the Ravens, it may be possible to re-sign him but it would hinder any other moves in free agency. While Ben Grubbs is a very valuable asset to the Ravens, they would sacrifice a lot to keep him on the team. While it certainly is possible, Grubbs willingness to test the free agent market doesn’t bode well for Ravens fans.
