Highest Rated Defensive Players: Asa Jackson (-5.7), Matt Elam (-5.7), Chykie Brown (-4.0), Lardarius Webb (-2.9), Daryl Smith (-2.8)

Jackson followed up a decent effort against the Panthers in week four with a total dud in week five.  He was the second highest targeted member of the Ravens secondary against the Colts, and gave up 7 receptions on 9 targets for 67 yards.  Andrew Luck registered a 97.7 QB rating when throwing Jackson’s way, which is only slightly better than his season average of 109.7.

Matt Elam had his best game of the season against the Colts, but that isn’t saying much.  Elam gave up 3 receptions on 3 targets for 26 yards and a 102.8 QB rating, which is a minor improvement on his season average of 118.8.  Elam still stands as the 74th qualifying safety in PFF’s rankings among 78 qualifiers.

Chykie Brown also continues his poor play despite only seeing action on 3 snaps Sunday.  He still gave up a reception on his only target, allowing a 28 yard completion to Reggie Wayne.  The Ravens have wisely begun phasing Brown out of the defense, but Asa Jackson hasn’t really been any better.

Webb saw his first real extended action of the season, so we can’t beat him up too bad.  Playing on 50% of the snaps, it was obvious that Webb isn’t in game shape yet.  Andrew Luck wisely took advantage, targeting him a team high 10 times.  Webb gave up 7 receptions for 91 yards to four different receivers.  There are better days ahead.

Daryl Smith has shown improvement the last two weeks, receiving his first two positive grades of the season.  Smith was second to C.J. Mosley in tackles Sunday with 8, and added four stops.  He also had a great day in coverage, allowing a mere 7 yards on 2 completions and a 70.1 QB rating.
