The Baltimore Ravens offense looked nothing like the unit that racked up points at will against the Buccaneers in week six. But they didn’t need 40+ points this week as the defense continued it’s impressive season in a 29-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Joe Flacco also continued his trend of following up good games with mediocre ones, but in the end it just didn’t matter.

Flacco completed 16 of 25 passes for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns with 2 interceptions in a bit of an uneven performance. Justin Forsett took a season high 23 carries for 95 yards, and Torrey Smith collected 3 receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown in the effort.
Meanwhile, the Ravens defense completely shut down the mighty Falcons offense both through the air and on the ground. Matt Ryan was sacked 5 times while completing 29 of 44 passes for 228 yards and one touchdown. Steven Jackson could only muster 22 yards on 8 carries to “lead” the Falcons in rushing.
The Ravens improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 2-5. Making things sweeter was a loss by the first place Bengals and the third place Browns. With the win and the Bengal’s loss, the Ravens move into sole possession of first place ahead of the team’s second meeting of the season next week in Cincinnati.
