Welcome to the Daily Caw, where we round up all the latest Ravens news and notes from around the web.  Today we discuss the hire of Marc Trestman as the team’s new offensive coordinator, the possibility that the Patriots used under inflated balls against the Ravens in the divisional playoff round, and why constant change doesn’t bother Joe Flacco.

Ravens Hiring of Marc Trestman a Bold Move

It came as a bit of a surprise yesterday when the Ravens decided to hire former Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman as their new offensive coordinator.  Set to replace another head coach who fell from favor the previous season, Gary Kubiak, Trestman got the nod over Adam Gase, who interviewed for the position the previous day.

Trestman is known for his ability to coach up quarterbacks and his explosive and imaginative offenses.  Even with all the turmoil in Chicago last season, they still had the NFL’s second highest scoring offense in the NFL in 2013 with the same personnel.  I personally think it’s a great hire. Trestman’s laid back personality didn’t translate well to a head coaching position when times got tough, but he should be a great fit as an offensive coordinator.

Marc Trestman is the Best Plan B Ravens Could Hope For

Gary Kubiak left his mark on the impressive turnaround this offense experienced in 2014, so losing him could have set the team back in a big way.  The Ravens made the best of what could have been a bad situation by hiring a great offensive mind to replace him instead of going with a more conservative choice.  Even John Harbaugh’s brother Jim has nothing but high praise for Trestman.

Change Doesn’t Bother Joe Flacco

The Ravens have now hired their fourth offensive coordinator in four seasons, a ridiculous number. While turnover is usually tough on quarterbacks, Flacco doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal learning a new offense every season.

Some Ravens Think Footballs Were Under-Inflated Against Patriots

The NFL found that the Patriots did indeed use under-inflated balls in the AFC Championship game against the Colts, and certain Ravens players think that may have been the case in the divisional round as well.
