The draft process for an NFL team is a long and tedious one. Scouts keep their eyes peeled on college players year round even though the actual hype begins shortly after the NFL’s regular season ends. We are headed into full blown draft season, an exciting time that reaches its peak when teams are officially on the clock beginning April 30th.
This year we are tracking every player that the Baltimore Ravens talk to or reportedly show interest in. Whether it be a workout, interview, team visit, or simply a rumored bit of interest, we are going to cover them all. We’ll take a look at each prospect and discuss whether or not that particular player might represent a good pick for the Ravens.
Utah cornerback Eric Rowe met with Ravens officials recently, and is another name to add to our long list of corners the team has chatted with. While Rowe isn’t a first round guy (he is currently projected to go in rounds four or five), he does have some desirable traits that could lead to his development as a solid NFL corner.
Rowe has good size and a long frame, and he has demonstrated the ability to disrupt receivers off the line of scrimmage and throw them off their routes. He is a solid tackler and is strong in run support. Rowe isn’t afraid to attack the ball and is aggressive in and out of his breaks. A three year starter at free safety, Rowe has some nice ball skills and is disruptive downfield.
The list of weaknesses on Eric Rowe isn’t exactly long, but it is enough to give scouts a little pause. He does not possess great speed and he would struggle with deep threat receivers. As a man corner, he will likely struggle for this very reason, along with his change of direction issues. In the right scheme, however (one with a solid free safety in support), Rowe would be a nice addition to the roster.
Do you think the Ravens should draft Eric Rowe?
