The draft process for an NFL team is a long and tedious one. Scouts keep their eyes peeled on college players year round even though the actual hype begins shortly after the NFL’s regular season ends. We are headed into full blown draft season, an exciting time that reaches its peak when teams are officially on the clock beginning April 30th.
This year we are tracking every player that the Baltimore Ravens talk to or reportedly show interest in. Whether it be a workout, interview, team visit, or simply a rumored bit of interest, we are going to cover them all. We’ll take a look at each prospect and discuss whether or not that particular player might represent a good pick for the Ravens.
The Ravens were extremely active during Senior Bowl week and talked to more prospects than pretty much any other team. Among them were several cornerbacks, including Northwestern State’s Imoan Claiborne. Projected as a late round pick, Claiborne is relatively small at 5’11” and 187 pounds, but has decent speed with a 4.53 40 time.
Claiborne’s strengths lie in his ability to significantly disrupt routes with his hands, as well as his loose hips and quick feet. He has strong change of direction skills and has the range to play over the top. Despite a lack of targets last season, Claiborne still managed three fumble recoveries and four interceptions. He has a reputation for studying hard and playing with confidence.
Claiborne’s biggest weakness is his size, which isn’t optimal for playing outside. His lateral acceleration and long speed are a question mark, and he struggles at times with long receivers. Regardless, Imoan Claiborne has the press cover skills and ability to stick to receivers that could make him a solid slot corner in the NFL. And slot corner is definitely a position currently available on the Ravens’ roster.
Do you think that Imoan Claiborne would be a good late round selection for the Ravens?
