The draft process for an NFL team is a long and tedious one.  Scouts keep their eyes peeled on college players year round even though the actual hype begins shortly after the NFL’s regular season ends.  We are headed into full blown draft season, an exciting time that reaches its peak when teams are officially on the clock beginning April 30th.

This year we are tracking every player that the Baltimore Ravens talk to or reportedly show interest in. Whether it be a workout, interview, team visit, or simply a rumored bit of interest, we are going to cover them all.  We’ll take a look at each prospect and discuss whether or not that particular player might represent a good pick for the Ravens.

Kansas State wide receiver Tyler Lockett opened up a lot of eyes last season as he moved past Jordy Nelson for the number two spot in school history in receiving yards and reached the same spot for touchdowns.  He then proceeded to reach number one in both categories, beating the records held by none other than his own father, Kevin.

It’s Lockett’s speed, intelligence, route running, and lineage that have scouts projecting him as a potential third round pick.  Lockett gains separation with ease and is very proficient with double moves. He simply has a knack for making explosive plays both as a receiver and a returner.  He is a willing blocker and has no problem stepping up his game when faced with stiff competition.

The main problem with Tyler Lockett is his diminutive size.  At 5’11” and 175 pounds, he struggles in press coverage and against physical corners.  He projects as a slot only receiver in the NFL, and may have a problem staying healthy at his current weight.  While he is quick, he top end speed isn’t great.

Ultimately, Tyler Lockett’s impressive collegiate production and intangibles are sure to get him a shot on an NFL roster.  His intelligence and reputation as a film guru, combined with his elite acceleration, will give him a shot to compete for a slot receiver job and returner right off the bat.
