The Minnesota Vikings cut ties with veteran wide receiver Greg Jennings on Saturday, a predictable bit of fallout after they acquired Mike Wallace from the Dolphins via trade.  Jennings was scheduled to count a whopping $11 million against the Vikings’ cap in 2015, so cutting the 31 year old was almost a foregone conclusion anyway.
Jennings’ best days are obviously behind him at this point, but he should draw interest from teams looking to add a steady veteran presence to their receiving corps.  Jennings played in all 16 games last season and recorded 59 receptions for 742 yards and 6 touchdowns.  As uninspiring as that stat line looks, he routinely made big catches in an offense playing quarterback roulette over the last two seasons.
So ideally, Greg Jennings is a solid number two or very good number three at this point in his career. He will likely be available at a reasonable price and won’t break the bank after a pair of mediocre statistical seasons in Minnesota.  Jennings does bring a solid, veteran presence, good route running, and steady hands.
After toiling in Minnesota for the last two seasons, it’s also quite possible that the thought of playing for a competitive team will appeal to Jennings.  He likely has 2-3 years left in the league, so he might want to join a team that gives him a shot at a ring.  Especially after spending the best years of his career playing in Green Bay and winning a Super Bowl in 2010.
No team has been linked to Jennings yet, and the Ravens have yet to be linked to any interest in any free agent wide receivers. Â But this is likely a product of price. Â Surely the safe money is on the team eventually signing another veteran wide receiver, the question is which one is willing to sign a reasonable offer. Â That guy might just be Greg Jennings.
