Baltimore Ravens Were Interested in Perrish Cox, Per Report

Dec 20, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers cornerback Perrish Cox (20) celebrates in the third quarter against the San Diego Chargers at Levi

In another “what could have been” story, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun is reporting that former San Francisco 49er Perrish Cox had the eye of the Baltimore Ravens before signing a 3 year, $15 million dollar deal with the Tennessee Titans.

Cox’s deal with the Titans is fairly reasonable, but it was obviously just a bit too rich for the Ravens.  He would have fit in perfectly as a depth piece in the secondary after a strong 2014 campaign that saw him rack up 5 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries along with 49 tackles across 15 games.

Perrish Cox is a bigger defensive back at 6’0″ and 190 and possesses good ball skills, much like the recently signed Kendrick Lewis.  He graded out as the 35th best corner in the NFL last season by Pro Football Focus, just a notch better than Lewis, who came in as the 39th best safety.

While we don’t know the parameters of Lewis’ deal yet, it’s likely that the Ravens got him at a better price than the Titans got Cox.  Both are pretty similar players in most every measurable way.  If nothing else, it goes to show you that the Ravens are looking for a particular type of player on the free agent market.
