Ozzie Newsome and the Baltimore Ravens have made a series of moves this free agency period (believe it or not!) that have freed up a healthy amount of cap space. After the team began the offseason dangerously close to the league limit, Ozzie and crew have once again masterfully carved out some breathing room without “kicking the can” down the road, as many teams do.
Freeing up that cap space allowed the Ravens to once again make a series of under the radar signings, none that even come close to making the giant waves that teams like the Eagles and Bills generated. But they are solid moves nonetheless. After it was all said and done, the Ravens now have a total cap number of $145,361,183 according to OverTheCap.com.
Here is a summary of what has changed since the offseason started in our mid free agency Baltimore Ravens salary cap update.
Lardarius Webb restructured the final three years of his 6 year deal. The move lowered his 2015 and 2016 cap hit from $12 million to $9 million and cut his 2017 number from $10.5 million to $9 million.
Bernard Pierce was waived following his arrest for DUI, which saves a net of $150,000 despite his $660,000 salary for 2015 due to current NFL rules.
Terrell Suggs agreed to restructure his contract, freeing up $2.25 million for 2015.
The trade of Haloti Ngata to the Lions saved the Ravens $8.5 million in cap space for 2015.
Lawrence Guy signed a new, 2 year, $2.3 million dollar contract (unknown cap hit at this time).
Morgan Cox signed a one year, $825,000 contract that carries a $665,000 cap hit.
Chris Canty signed a 2 year, $4.65 million dollar contract that carries a 2015 cap hit of $1.75 million.
Kendrick Lewis signed a 3 year, $5.4 million dollar contract that carries a 2015 cap hit of $1.27 million.
Christo Bulukidi signed a 2 year, $1.5 million dollar deal with a $700,000 2015 cap hit.
Justin Forsett signed a 3 year, $9 million dollar deal with a 2015 cap hit of $1.6 million.
All of those moves leave the Ravens with roughly $9 million in estimated cap space. How do you think the team should spend it?
