College Football 24/7 and NFL.com are counting down the top 50 NFL draft picks of all time, just a few weeks ahead of the 2015 draft. As the Baltimore Ravens are historically one of the better drafting teams in the league, it should come as no surprise that at least a few names will pop up on the list. And while the site is still in the process of counting down to number one, we’ve already got one Raven on the list – Ed Reed.
In fact, Reed is number 50 on the list. A first round pick in the 2002 draft (number 24 overall), Reed went on to garner 9 Pro Bowl nods in 11 seasons, though he isn’t technically retired (yet). He is sixth all-time in interceptions with 64, with 7 of those going back for touchdowns. Reed capped off his career in purple and black by helping the Ravens win their second Super Bowl.
It’s easy to get a little fired up about Ed Reed coming in at the bottom of the list, until you start looking at the names above him. There are some serious legends in there, plus Reed was a first round pick. Obviously guys who were taken in later rounds are going to get a little bonus. There’s no clear outline of the criteria the site is using to determine who ranks where, but that has to play a little role in things.
What do you think about the top 50 rankings so far? Should another Raven, say Ray Lewis, show up at some point? In the meantime, we’ll keep you updated if/when another Raven shows up on the list.
