Mel Kiper is sticking to his guns in his latest mock draft (a.k.a. the Mel Kiper Mock Draft 4.0, officially), at least in regards to the Baltimore Ravens’ first round selection. He is once again, for the second straight mock, selecting Washington cornerback Marcus Peters as the Ravens’ pick at number 26.
It’s really no surprise, as Peters is one of the most talented cornerbacks in the draft. If not for his transgressions at Washington that ultimately led to his dismissal from the team, we wouldn’t even be talking about the possibility of Peters in a Ravens uniform, because he would be a top ten pick.
I have my doubts as to whether or not Peters will fall to the end of the first round, but if he does, it would represent an absolute steal for the Ravens. Peters is exactly the what the team needs in their secondary – a physical playmaker who is a perfect fit for the press, man-to-man coverage they like to use.
If Peters checks out mentally, I doubt there will be much concern over a team using a first round pick on him. Peters wowed scouts at his pro day last week, and he plays a premium position in the NFL. We also just learned that the Ravens have already met with him, and that they haven’t removed Peters from their draft board yet. Now the question remains, will he fall to 26?
