Continuing their dizzying running back tour, the Baltimore Ravens were among the 23 NFL teams who attended Indiana running back Tevin Coleman’s pro day.  A projected second round pick, Coleman didn’t disappoint scouts and coaches, running an impressive 4.35 40 yard dash.  Coleman has previously met with the Ravens and a handful of other teams.

Making his pro day workout more notable was Coleman’s inability to work out at the combine due to a broken right toe he suffered during last season.  He had surgery in December on the toe, which didn’t stop him from playing through the injury and becoming the third player in Big 10 history with 2,000+ rushing yards in a season.

Tevin Coleman’s upright running style has drawn comparisons to DeMarco Murray, and he was a violent runner in college.  He’s a north-south guy with tremendous burst and a fearless running style.  Coleman has elite one cut ability and ridiculous burst.  He is also a capable receiver out of the backfield with steady hands.  The biggest knocks on Coleman are his lack of patience and ability to break tackles.

Coleman would be a great pickup for the Ravens because of his one-cut ability and elite speed.  He would be a nice system fit and is a guy who doesn’t need much polish to become a game changing running back. He simply needs to learn to be more patient and wait for holes to develop instead of running full speed into a pile, and to lower his center of gravity a bit.  DeMarco Murray came into the NFL with the same knocks, and he turned out just fine.
