It’s no secret that newly signed Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Matt Schaub has been pretty bad in team practices so far this offseason. Schaub’s career has been on a sharp decline over the last couple of seasons, but despite his early struggles, head coach John Harbaugh has stood behind the veteran QB.
The same can’t be said for linebacker Terrell Suggs.
Suggs launched a “playful” (or not?) jab at Schaub after he overthrew his receivers on a particular play, pointing out that “your guys are the guys in purple.” Tough love, but somebody’s got to do it.
In other, extremely disappointing news, sophomore defensive end Brent Urban tore his biceps muscle during a minimal contract drill at practice on Thursday. Urban faces a lengthy recovery time of 12-14 weeks and might be headed for injured reserve for the second straight year.
It’s an extremely disappointing development after Urban was looking very good in practices this offseason, one year after tearing his ACL and missing his entire rookie season.
In other news, injuries at the wide receiver position continue to be a problem for the Ravens, and Steve Smith missed practice Saturday for personal reasons. It left a hungry defense with plenty of opportunities to make plays, and that they did.
Breshad Perriman has now missed practice for a full week with a knee bruise, but John Harbaugh refused to rule him out of the Ravens’ preseason opener Thursday against the Saints. Smart money would be on Perriman not playing, but he might see a handful of snaps if he practices Monday or Tuesday.
