Stock down: Maxx Williams
When you draft a guy in the 2nd round and your starter goes down with an injury, you expect that guy to take over as a starter. Unfortunately, in the case of Maxx Williams, he simply isn’t ready. The rookie saw only one target against the Browns, catching it for 0 yards.
Making matters worse, fellow rookie (and 5th round pick) Nick Boyle saw 3 targets and caught all 3 for 27 yards. Boyle isn’t half the athlete that Williams is, but he knows how to pass protect and he has made plays when given the opportunity.
Williams is shaping up as the latest rookie tight end who needs a full season to develop. His odds of making any sort of serious impact in year one are looking less and less likely by the week, and Crockett Gillmore will be back eventually.
