January 28th, 2001 – The Ravens defeat the New York Giants 34-7 in Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, Florida. Ray Lewis is MVP.  The Ravens defense allowed the fewest points in NFL history (165) during the course of the regular season).

2000 was a year full of accomplishments for the Ravens.  Even when they couldn’t score touchdowns, they were kicking field goals.  After a 5-4 start, they would not lose another game.  They had a historic showing on defense, setting a record for the least number of points allowed in a season.

But perhaps most importantly, the Ravens won their first Super Bowl.

In what was one of the most snore inducing Super Bowls of all time, the Ravens absolutely dominated the New York Giants as they cruised to victory.  It put an exclamation point on what had been a historic season from one of the greatest defenses in NFL history.

The Ravens vaunted defense racked up four sacks, forced five turnovers, and returned an interception for a touchdown.  They didn’t allow the Giants to score a single point on offense, as their sole touchdown came on a kickoff return.

The Ravens became the third Super Bowl team in NFL history to not allow an offensive touchdown, and the third Wild Card team to win a Super Bowl.  And to cap it all off, the great Ray Lewis walked away with MVP honors.
