Ronnie Stanley has moved up the board as my number one left tackle going into the 2016 NFL Draft. Stanely has everything you’d want a left tackle to have physically. He is a big 6’6″ 315 pound blocking machine. He is a dominant run blocker and he is a strong pass protector. Stanley isn’t a finished product but he has a lot of upside.

Stanley’s draft stock will depend heavily on the NFL Scouting Combine results. The consensus number one left tackle seems to be Laremy Tunsil from Ole Miss. I think Stanley is the better athlete and that should show during the combine. What you have to love about Stanley is that he has a high motor and he makes big blocks in the second level of the defense that spring big rushing plays.

Strengths:

More from Ravens Draft

  • Ideal size and length for an NFL left tackle
  • Gets a lot of power from lower body, fluid movement
  • Aggressive run blocker, can really move
  • High Football IQ, not easily fooled by stunts and blitzes
  • Does a good job keeping pass rusher in front of him, good at mirroring defender
  • Perfect for zone blocking scheme because of athleticism

Concerns:

  • Despite being a senior, Stanley is a little raw with his technique
  • Needs to work on footwork and balance
  • Could use some bulking up in upper body

Why He Is An Option For The Ravens:

It isn’t out of the realm of possibilities that the Ravens could spend the sixth overall draft pick on an offensive tackle. Eugene Monroe doesn’t seem to be a long-term option and the Ravens still need to re-sign Kelechi Osemele. If Osemele departs from the team the Ravens will be almost forced to pick an offensive lineman in the draft.

Stanley is a perfect fit for the Ravens running game. The Ravens value big plays on the ground being set up from their zone blocking scheme. Stanley is the most athletic of the two tackles drawing top 10 buzz. The Ravens will value his ability to block down the field in the running game.
