Ravens: Thoughts On Nick Boyle Suspension
Nick Boyle showed potential in his first season with the Ravens, but it is hardly devastating news that he will miss the first ten games of the season. Boyle caught 18 receptions for 153 yards in 2015. This is the second time Boyle has been suspended for PED use.

The Ravens have two other young tight ends that have shown promise. Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams have plenty of potential. The Ravens also have Dennis Pitta but I’ll believe in the comeback story when I see it. The point is that Boyle needs the Ravens more than the Ravens need Boyle.
When it comes to performance enhancing drugs, it’s understandable. It is a league where you have to be bigger, stronger and faster than we once thought was humanly possible. Boyle’s game is dependent on his drive and determination rather than his athletic ability. Plus we’re naive if we think PED use is uncommon in the NFL.
The problem is that PED’s are not allowed and Boyle got caught. The problem is that this is his second suspension. He was drafted in 2015 and he has already been suspended for 14 games. When you get caught once, drug testing becomes an all the time thing. And while it is understandable, it obviously is not the right thing to do.
The frustrating part is that Boyle’s play on the field in 2015 exceeded expectations. The fifth round pick showed that he had the same kind of potential that Gillmore and Williams have.

Baltimore is set at the tight end position with or without Boyle. This is disappointing but not devastating news.
