The Baltimore Ravens have been rumored to be interested in cornerback, Adam Jones. Like anything right before the free agency rush, you have to question everything you hear. However when Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that the Ravens are interested in Jones, you have to take that seriously.

Here are three reasons why the Ravens signing Adam Jones makes sense.

1. He Would Be An Upgrade

With Ladarius Webb moving to safety, the Ravens don’t have answers at cornerback. The ideal situation would pair Jones and Jimmy Smith, making Shareece Wright the nickel. The Ravens have been toasted by top quarterbacks in the past couple of seasons. Adam Jones would be a great option for the Ravens because he has more talent than anyone but maybe Smith in the Ravens defensive backfield. Jones is a good corner, who can play man and zone. He also has ball skills, he grabbed three interceptions last season.

2. He’s Been Keeping On The Right Track

The biggest reservation with Jones is the baggage he could potentially bring. The problem with holding this concern is that his troubled past seems like something he has passed. He has had legal trouble. He has had drug related problems. The fact though is that he has gotten opportunities because of his talent; and he has made the most of the opportunity the Bengals gave him in 2010.

3. Ravens Must Focus on What Can Be Solved

Look, Kelechi Osemele is probably out the door no matter what the Ravens do. Instead of sulking, the Ravens should make the most of it. Focusing their spending on things that can actually be solved would be a great option.

The Ravens need to get better in pass defense. The secondary is a big problem and Jones is a veteran cornerback that can help.

The Ravens need to improve the roster. Their hands are tied with some needs. It is better to take care of what you can than to focus on what you can’t do.
