NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala reported via Twitter that the Baltimore Ravens were interested in signing a tight end and potentially Mike Wallace. It puzzles me why after signing Benjamin Watson the Ravens need another tight end. Though adding a receiver like Wallace woukd make some sense.

More from Ravens News

Wallace is fast. That has been his calling card in the NFL. The Ravens are very familiar with Wallace, who used to play for the Steelers. Wallace was released by the Vikings after a dissapointing 2015 campaign for the eight year pro. Wallace had just 39 receptions for 479 yards and just two touchdowns this past season.

In 2014 Wallace was a star receiver. He scored 10 touchdowns that season and had 67 receptions. If the Ravens could get that kind of production from him, than he is worth bringing in.

The Ravens are clearly focused on something they didn’t have in 2015, speed. Watson is a fast for tight end standards. Wallace would provide a weapon that could utilize Joe Flacco’s cannon arm. This seems like a good deal for the Ravens.

The argument against Wallace is that there are better options available. Despite Marvin Jones and Travis Benjamin being swept up by the Lions and Chargers respectively, there are some interesting names to consider. Anquan Boldin and Rueben Randle are two of the options that seem potentially more rewarding than Wallace.

There would not be much risk with Wallace. He won’t cost the Ravens much. Imagine if Breshad Perriman does what the Ravens drafted him to do and Wallace is signed. The Ravens would all of the sudden have one if the fastest receiving groups in football. That being said it seems like Wallace would be more of a bargain than a bold move.
