The Baltimore Ravens need to take a long hard look at signing Brent Grimes. Brent grimes is a veteran cornerback with plenty of talent and great technique. The 32 year old cornerback has intercepted 26 passes in his nine years in the NFL. He had four interceptions last season.

The Ravens secondary has been problematic so long now that we’re  to the point that we all are beginning to sound like a broken record. Every season we talk about how the Ravens need help at the cornerback position. Well it is time to make that help happen. Grimes would be an upgrade in the Ravens secondary.

It has been reported by Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, that several NFL teams have written Grimes off because of the antics of his wife. I’m going to be frank here. I couldn’t care less what his wife does or any controversy she may create from the stands. I just care about the impact that Grimes can make on the field.

Grimes still has good football left in him. He is a good cornerback who can make plays for the Ravens. The Ravens will eventually need a long-term answer at the cornerback position opposite of Jimmy Smith. For now the Ravens need to take Grimes off the market.

The Ravens have to solve their problems in the secondary one way or another. If they don’t sign a player like Grimes they will have to draft somebody. Rookie defensive backs have perhaps the hardest transition into the NFL other than quarterbacks. Why wait for a rookie to develop, when you can sign an instant starter like Grimes.

The Ravens have never shied away from being the team that gives veteran players another chance. Grimes is a Ravens kind of player. He has a chip on his shoulder, he is physical and he is relentless. That’s a guy who should be a Ravens football player.

Grimes can run with receivers with exceptional talent in man to man coverage. He also is good in zone coverage, and he loves jumping in front of routes. He takes some chances at the cornerback position but he is right much more than he is wrong. No cornerback wins on every play in any given game. Grimes is the best player the Ravens could bring in at a position of need. Grimes and Smith could be quite the cornerback pairing, hopefully Ozzie Newsome makes it happen.
