Weddle Comes In, Who Goes Out?

The Baltimore Ravens have found their new starting free safety. The Ravens now have a lot of players at a position that is filled up. The Ravens could easily part ways with a safety or two. Last night, Baltimore Sun reporter, Jeff Zerbiec tweeted the financial savings of each possible cut. According to Zerbiec, cutting Will Hill would save $3 million. Cutting Webb would save $3.5 million. Cutting Kendrick Lewis would save $950,000 and Matt Elam being chopped would give the Ravens $1.3 million. Assuming these numbers from Zerbiec are right, the Ravens have some interesting decisions to make.

If it were up to me, I would cut Kendrick Lewis and Matt Elam. These are two of the worst players the Ravens have. If Lewis had lived up to his expectations, Webb wouldn’t have moved to free safety and Weddle wouldn’t be here. Matt Elam has done nothing in his short time with the Ravens to inspire confidence. Ladarius Webb is the most likely roster cut, though I think he is still valuable enough to keep.

Whatever happens, the Ravens need to keep Will Hill. Hill is one of the most underrated strong safeties in football. Paired with Weddle, the results could be amazing. The Ravens would have two very athletic  and hard-hitting safeties. Who stays with Weddle in the back-end of the defense is an interesting story to watch.
