Baltimore Ravens: Arthur Brown Vs. Zach Orr

Should Arthur Brown Or Zach Orr Start For The Baltimore Ravens?

The Baltimore Ravens run a 3-4 base defense, meaning they start two inside linebackers. One of these starting spots is locked up by the exciting C.J. Mosley. The other is much more of a question mark.

Ever since 2013 the Ravens have leaned on Darryl Smith. In a cap space-saving measure, the Ravens parted ways with Smith. The Ravens did not address the inside linebacker position in the 2016 NFL Draft; meaning it’s up to Arthur Brown or Zach Orr to fill the position.

Typically in position battles, the nod goes to whom the Ravens have made the biggest investment. They traded up to get Brown in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. John Harbaugh will give Brown every opportunity to win the job.

The other candidate is Zach Orr. Orr was an undrafted free agent in 2014. Orr has proven to be a good hitter. He seems to have the pre-requisuite strength of the linebacker position.

Neither player has done much of note. Brown has 17 tackles and 0.5 sacks in no career starts. Orr has 30 tackles and two sacks with no starts on his resume.

One way or another the Ravens are going to call upon an unproven player. The Ravens had high hopes for Brown but he has not met them. The Ravens drafted him to be a starter. The fact that we are even having this discussion does not bode well for him.

I think Orr is the better player. He is a little thicker, hits harder and has similar quickness to Brown. This is going to be an interesting position to watch in the preseason.
