The Baltimore Ravens added a key player to their biggest area of need…

According to reports the Baltimore Ravens added veteran cornerback Jerraud Powers. Powers has been a solid player for the Arizona Cardinals for the last three seasons. Before that he had a four-year run with the Indianapolis Colts.

Powers may not be a superstar, but he has proven to be a reliable defensive back. He had 52 tackles, one sack and one interception in 2015. He has 11 interceptions on his resume, three of which came in 2014. Powers at times can be a playmaker.

Powers will most likely be used as the nickel cornerback. He is very good lined up against slot receivers. He’s not the guy you put on an island outside; rather you let him do his thing.

Late last season, Shareece Wright started to play strong. Right now It looks like Jimmy Smith and Wright are your outside cornerbacks, while Powers is the nickel.

Everything hinges on which Wright the Ravens get in 2016. Wright started six games with the Ravens last season; he started out poorly and improved dramatically every week. If Wright shines, the Ravens cornerback situation is greatly improved.

Without Powers the Ravens had a lack of reliable options. Now their cornerback situation is at least stable. Say what you will about Smith, he is a quality starter. Wright should be okay. Powers is a player who helps at the nickel corner spot. Tavon Young is a developmental player. Will Davis and Kyle Arrington are there just in case.

The move is very similar to when the Ravens signed Corey Graham. While Powers is a much more accomplished player than Graham was at the time; both deals had similar timing and an under the radar vibe. Graham ended up being an important player for the purple and black. Hopefully Powers, will work out the same way.
