Instant Reaction To Breshad Perriman’s Frustrating Injury

According to a report from Jamison Hensely of ESPN, Breshad Perriman partially tore his ACL. Perriman may require surgery, and is getting a second opinion. Assuming the bad news is not a false alarm, Perriman will likely miss his second consecutive season. This news is so frustratingly bad, that its hard to believe.

When I saw Adam Schefter tweet out that Perriman was hurt again, I threw my arms up in the air and yelled “You Have Got To Be Kidding Me!” The Ravens will go through yet another season without seeing their 2015 first round pick. With this news its getting next to impossible not to call Perriman a draft bust. He had injury concerns coming into the 2015 draft, he’s gotten hurt twice and I’m pretty sure we’ll find Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster  before we see him on the field.

Even if the Ravens get something out of Perriman in the future, will it ever outweigh the cost of waiting for a first round pick for two seasons. The Ravens had plenty of options when they drafted Perriman late in the first round. They chose a player who ended up getting hurt in back to back off-seasons.

Its hard for a Ravens fan to have anything but a viscerally painful reaction. This is essentially throwing a first round pick down the drain. To be fair, it is not Perriman’s fault. He did nothing wrong. It’s not like we can be mad at him. We can be mad at the Ravens however. They either took an unthinkable chance on him or they underplayed the concern too much.

Next: Which Mike Wallace Will The Ravens Get?

The good news is that Mike Wallace was the Ravens insurance policy for this very situation. With Perriman, Wallace would have given the Ravens two top speed guys. Now the Ravens at least have one player that can stretch the field vertically. Now we can only hope that Wallace does not continue his decline in performance and neither does the Ravens run with Murphy and his law.
