The 2006 Defense

The 2006 Ravens had their best regular season record, going 13-3. The defense was ranked number one in the NFL. The Ravens only allowed 264.1 yards per game. They had 28 interceptions. They had 60 sacks. We’re talking about Terrell Suggs and Adalius Thomas doing their thing in a defense where pressure came from everywhere. Suggs had 9.5 sacks that season while Thomas had 11. Trevor Pryce also got into the mix with 13 sacks. It was an incredible pass rushing defense.

The 2006 Ravens lost to the Indianapolis Colts. The Ravens kept Peyton Manning out of the end zone; the Colts only scored five field goals. Against one of the best quarterbacks of all the Ravens were magnificent. Ed Reed picked off Manning twice. To this day, I believe it was the greatest defensive performance that resulted in a loss.

The 2006 Ravens defense was special. The Ravens offense just disappeared at the wrong time. The Ravens could have won it all that season. They looked invincible going into the postseason.
