The Ravens Abundance Of Talent Actually Hurts Their Fantasy Football Appeal

The Baltimore Ravens have plenty of talent. And for Fantasy Football players that is the problem with drafting Ravens. In the Ravens offense there are a lot of hands out for one football. The Ravens are poised to set big numbers as a team, but it’s tough to bet on individual players.

Look at the running back position, which is so pivotal in fantasy. Is Justin Forsett a clear cut starter? How many touches will Buck Allen get? How does Kenneth Dixon fit into the equation? It looks like the classic signs of a running back by committee.

The tight end situation is more perplexing. The return of Dennis Pitta complicates things. Ben Watson was signed to play making him the safest bet for fantasy drafts. But then you have Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams, both who have untapped potential.

The wide receiver position comes with more clarity. You can probably get Steve Smith Sr. late because of injury concerns. If Smith Sr. is healthy, he is the clear go to receiver. Joe Flacco (who has never been known as a great fantasy value) loves throwing the ball to the veteran receiver. Smith Sr. could be worth the investment on your draft day.

Kamar Aiken’s role is going to diminish slightly. The Ravens got their go-to-guy back. But Aiken is clearly the number two receiver. Mike Wallace may make some big plays. He may have some huge games. That being said it will be hard to predict when those big games are coming. The thing to remember with Wallace is that when he makes plays, they tend to be big plays.

So the Ravens talent is clearly there. The Ravens have the type of team that could have beautiful balance. They could all have good seasons, which could make the Ravens offense incredibly productive. But for season long fantasy leagues, no individual starter screams as a must get fantasy player.

For daily fantasy sports, the Ravens provide more value. You can see what provides value from week to week. You can look at match ups, let the Ravens figure out which players are putting up numbers on a week to week basis. But in season long leagues, the Ravens don’t have any sure fantasy options.
