The Baltimore Ravens and Justin Tucker have worked out a four-year contract.

What do you get the second most accurate kicker in NFL history? Well the Ravens gave Tucker a contract that he earned and deserves. According to multiple reports, Tuckers contract is a four years $16.8 million deal. Tucker will receive $10.8 million guaranteed which is the most guaranteed money ever for a kicker.

This is great news. Things were getting pretty tense in negotiations by all accounts. In the end the Ravens gave a fair deal to their dependable kicker. Tucker has made 130 of his 148 field goal attempts. He is nearly automatic within 50 yards and he has a leg that can sometimes deliver unimaginable results. Take for example the 61 yard field goal he kicked against the Detroit Lions to win a game in 2013.

The Ravens learned the hard way that a kicker can mean everything. Billy Cundiff may as well be a curse word around Baltimore. The kicker may not be the most exciting position, but they can make the difference between winning and losing. When you have to worry about a last second field goal, your kicker has failed the trust test. Justin Tucker misses every now and then, but he has never failed the trust test.

That is a peace of mind that is very valuable. When the Pittsburgh Steelers lacked faith in Josh Scobee to make field goals, it forced Mike Tomlin into troubling risks. There was one clear difference in the Ravens week four game against the Steelers; the Ravens had a kicker. Justin Tucker’s game winning field goal was routine. There was no doubt that the football was going through the uprights.

When you travel to Heinz Field every year, a perilous stadium for kickers, Tucker is a good person to take on the team bus. Tucker can power field goals through in windy weather and in tough situations. He surely did not have a problem in the 2012 playoffs, when he beat the Broncos, by kicking a rock hard football in the Denver cold.

Tucker is worth every decimal and every fraction of a penny. The Ravens could not afford to nickel and dime a key part of their team. They needed to secure a long-term peace of mind. That is what this four-year deal did for the Ravens. Tucker needs to be a Raven for life.
