Justin Tucker Deserves Long-Term Deal…

The team that would not have won a Super Bowl without Matt Stover; is also the team that may have three Super Bowl’s if it weren’t for Billy Cundiff. No team should understand the importance of a good kicker more than the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens have to four pm, to sign Justin Tucker to a long-term deal. According to reports by Adam Schefter and Jamison Hensley, Tucker vows not to re-sign with the Ravens if he plays under the franchise tag this season. The Ravens need to make this work; they need to do it quickly.

Tucker is the second most accurate kicker in NFL History; a title that will inflate his salary. Tucker has made 130 of 148 career field goals. He’s clutch with game winners; he even hit a 61 yard field goal to bear the Detroit Lions. Tucker is worth every single penny. Especially for a team with a history of winning close games.

While it is possible that the “Tucker Ultimatum” is potentially nothing more than a bargaining tactic, the Ravens can’t risk it. I’m not Ozzie Newsome. I don’t have a bunch of numbers in front of me. I don’t have to fit all the puzzle pieces together just right. What I do have is the perspective to respect Tucker’s value.

I have to believe that Tucker and the Ravens can get this done. It’s not like I’m suggesting that Tucker  should just back up a truck, and tell Steve Bisciotti when to stop shoveling money into it. But the Tucker deserves the contract he has earned. The Ravens cannot make a frugal stand.

You see the kicker position is kind of Like the quarterback position. If you have a good one, it makes things much easier. Finding a franchise quarterback is tough. Finding a great kicker is equally challenging. When the game is on the foot of Tucker he is as valuable as any player on the team.

The clock is ticking. The Ravens must see the big picture and make a deal with one of their most dependable and irreplaceable players.
