Terrance West Is A Potential Game Changer For The Ravens RB Spot

The Baltimore Ravens have a problem. In many ways it’s a good problem to have. That being said it’s still a problem. The Ravens have too many options at the running back position.

Justin Forsett is the starter, but that doesn’t seem set in stone. The Ravens have drafted Javorius “Buck” Allen and Kenneth Dixon in back to back years. Add Terrance West and Lorenzo Taliaferro to the mix, and you have a clogged position on the depth chart.

The most likely one out has to be Taliaferro. He is an injury prone power back. He’s shown flashes of brilliance. For example he had a 91 yard performance, in 2014 against the Browns. Taliaferro has never strung these moments together. It may not be his fault, but it’s hard to know what to expect from him.

The Ravens are not going to part ways with Forsett, Dixon or Allen. This means Terrance West is in a position to change everything at the running back position.

West has been getting rave reviews at Ravens training camp. He was the big playmaker at the first open practice. If West makes this kind of impact on Saturday’s open practice, fans will be clamoring for the home-grown favorite to make the team.

Can the Ravens keep four running backs? It is rare to see a team with four running backs. The 53 man roster usually pushes teams to keep only three. A fourth back into the equation means a tough cut at another position.

The Ravens are invested in Forsett. The Ravens drafted Allen, Dixon and Taliaferro. The Ravens have the least investment in West. The Ravens know what they have in West and Allen. Dixon has lofty expectations. West was supposed to compete, he was never expected to win.

The New York Giants had four running backs last season. They had a running back by committee because no running back was all that great. The Ravens running back by committee is because they have an overload of talent.

The Ravens are deep at the tight end position. The Ravens have a fullback. The Ravens will probably want to keep seven wide receivers. West is taking care of his business and it is complicating things for the Ravens. All we can do is wait and see what happens.
