The Baltimore Ravens have filled their backfield with underdogs. As a result the Ravens may have the best collection of running back talent in the National Football League. Each of the Ravens exciting backs was overlooked by too many people.

Justin Forsett is the perfect example of an underdog. Before coming to Baltimore, Forsett was a change of pace or a third down back. The 30-year-old running back has found a home with the Ravens, which is his fifth team. Forsett had some mild success with the Seahawks. That being said Forsett has had more carries in the past two seasons than he did in four years in Seattle.

Forsett came to a Ravens team that needed to replace Ray Rice. Nobody really expected Forsett to be a star. He did it any way. Forsett was a catalyst of the Ravens 2014 success and their resurgent rushing attack.

Terrance West is making noise in training camp. It can be argued that West was the real star of the first preseason game. West is a player who has a chip on hos shoulder.

West was a walk on at Towson University. His fierce running took the Towson football  to new heights. West used hard work and determination to take himself from a small school walk on to an NFL Draft pick. West was picked by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

When things did not work out with the Browns he went to the Tennessee Titans. When the Titans released him last year he ended up in Baltimore. Now West is hoping for a real chance to shine. It looks like he has earned that.

Javorius “Buck Allen” and Kenneth Dixon were taking in the fourth round of back to back drafts. Allen clearly proved himself last season, especially in the passing game. In his rookie season the USC product caught 45 passes for 353 yards. When Forsett went down that gave Allen a chance to display his starting caliber talent.

Dixon set records and gave himself a boastful resume at Louisiana Tech. His highlight reel is dazzling. Dixon’s ability was clearly on display in the Ravens first preseason game. Dixon had a 19 yard run that was a thing of beauty. It is mind-boggling that Dixon was just a fourth round pick. He has talent that NFL decision makers should have seen from a mile away.

It seems almost unfair that one team could have such a group of talented running backs. The Ravens formed this group of rushing studs by collecting under valued talent. Each of these backs were an underdog before seeking stardom with the purple and black. The Ravens have turned their underdog backfield into a group that could be difference makers this season.
