A Limited Martellus Bennett Hurts Patriots, Helps Ravens

Will A Limited Martellus Bennett Help the Ravens Win?

You don’t wish injury on any player because it could eventually be karma if a player on your team gets hurt as well.  But injuries are part of football and no team is fully healthy at this time of year.

The injury to Martellus Bennett could benefit the Ravens tremendously tonight.  Bennett will play but he will be limited.  The Ravens defense will definitely watch Bennett, but not as closely as they would’ve if he were at full strength.

The Ravens have trouble with tight ends as you probably already know.  Bennett’s limited action tonight will clearly be an advantage for the Ravens #1 ranked defense.

Without having to worry about a 100% percent healthy Bennett, the Ravens should be able to put pressure on Brady.  The more pressure Brady has against him, the more likely he is to make a mistake.

If Bennett is only used as a blocker, then I see Suggs and Dumervil getting at least two sacks each.  It would be even better if they could get a strip sack, but we can’t get too greedy.  Suggs always seems to have a great game against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots and I don’t expect that to stop tonight.

Bill Belichick and Brady are too smart to let an injury affect the team.  They have the “Next Man Up” mentality so they might go out and throw the ball to Matt Lengel who is Bennett’s backup.

The Ravens really need to win this game if they want to keep pace with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Miami Dolphins to get to the playoffs.
