Brandon Marshall Will Become A Free Agent. Ozzie Newsome has to make him a Raven.

The Baltimore Ravens have to sign Brandon Marshall. It should be their top priority this offseason. This is the Ravens best chance at getting a sure thing at the wide receiver position. Marshall has been wasting away some of the best receiving talent in the league with the New York Jets. No matter what you think about Joe Flacco, he would be a clear upgrade for Marshall. Marshall has spent the last two seasons catching passes from Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith.

When you look at the kind of production Marshall had, it’s hard not to dream of him wearing the purple and black. Marshall has had eight seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. While he is coming off a down year, remember how putrid the Jets really were. Marshall had 59 receptions for just over 700 yards last season. However in 2015, when the Jets nearly made the playoffs he had 109 receptions for 1,508 yards and a career high 14 touchdowns.

To put it simply, the Ravens have never had a player of Marshall’s skill set at the wide receiver position. Marshall is better than Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith combined. Marshall is better than Derrick Mason. While Steve Smith Sr. may be better overall, in the time he was with the Ravens, Marshall was a better player. There is no doubt about it, Marshall is what the Ravens need. He’s what the organization has never had.

If you thought it was fun watching Anqaun Boldin win the jump balls for Flacco, you haven’t seen anything yet. Marshall is a strong 6’4″ receiver. He will be a red zone machine for the Ravens, if they sign him.

The Bottom Line:

That’s the kind of player Marshall is. The Ravens need him badly. Without Marshall, their best receiver is Mike Wallace. Wallace is a speed demon of a wide receiver, but he isn’t a number one. Breshad Perriman has big play potential but how much can you really count on him. There just isn’t much to be excited about at the wide receiver position. The Ravens either need to bring in two solid receivers or a superstar like Marshall.

Marshall would give the Ravens something to be excited about. It would give the Ravens some help in the passing game. They would get a tough player to add a little edge to their offensive personnel. Marshall could spark something for the Ravens. There is no question about it, the Ravens must man up and sign Brandon Marshall when free agency starts.
