Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama

With the departure of Rick Wagner the Ravens are in even bigger need of help on the offensive line. Ronnie Stanley and Marshal Yanda are secure at LT and RG but everywhere else is a question mark. Thus, Cam Robinson has been mocked to the Ravens a number of times. Like Teez Tabor, I feel that it is a reach based on need and if history is anything to go by then the Ravens should avoid that at all costs.

Robinson is in competition for the top offensive tackle spot when the OT NFL draft class is underwhelming. Regardless of whether he is the best tackle or not, none of the top tackles are top 16 picks in my eyes, they’re not even top 20 picks.

Robinson is a good looking football body. He fits the description of an NFL LT and plenty of his tape looks good. He is a powerful player. When faced with a power rusher he can handle them pretty well. In the run game he has a good initial punch and can hold people out or drive them back. He’s athletic and is mobile when blocking downfield and does a good job moving to the second level.

It’s A Technique Thing:

Though he’s powerful he can misuse it and has a few technique issues that undermine the power. He leans forward too much and his weight distribution is off, which in-turn throws off his balance. He is on the ground too much. Robinson can struggle with speed rushers, especially when they can turn that speed into power. He can also neglect his feet thanks to his upper body power. By doing that he fails to drive his feet and he can be shed easily by the defensive player.

Like Tabor, he is a good player and could be a 1st round pick in the NFL Draft; but at #16 that is just too high and the Ravens should look elsewhere.
