Ravens Rumors: Is LeGarrette Blount a good fit at running back?
By Joe Schiller
Is he worth a comp pick?
If the Ravens want to sign Blount, it is going to cost them. ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley talked about a little know rule the Patriots used. They used a May 9 tender that makes any team who signs Blount forfeit a compensatory pick. Hensley highlighted it here:
"According to Pro Football Talk, the Patriots extended a one-year, $1.1 million tender (110 percent of last year’s salary) to Blount, an unrestricted free agent. By doing so, Blount would count toward New England’s compensatory draft picks if he signs elsewhere before July 22. After that date, he can only sign with the Patriots for the 2017 season."

Signing him would mean that the Ravens would give up their third round compensatory pick for next year. It came from losing right tackle Rick Wagner in free agency. The Ravens love their compensatory picks. They have been among the league leaders since they were introduced. With the amount of backs on the roster, I’m not sure if they would want to give it up. Nevertheless, I do not think you get worse as a team if you add Blount.
