The Kansas City Chiefs cut Jeremy Maclin. One would think that the receiver needy Ravens would be inclined to sign him. This makes too much sense:
Jeremy Maclin caught 44 receptions in 12 games last season for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs decision to part with Maclin makes sense. He is on the back end of his career and his production dipped heavily in 2016. Maclin has been a really productive receiver but his value has diminished some. The Chiefs moved on but he’s still a decent player. It seems like a perfect chance for the Ravens to pick up a talented wide receiver.
There is no argument to be had against signing Maclin. There just isn’t. I don’t want to hear that Maclin is too much like Breshad Perriman and Mike Wallace. At this point, Joe Flacco just needs players to throw the football too.
I don’t want to hear that he’s washed up. Wallace was coming off a 39 reception 2015 season. He caught 72 passes for 1017 yards in 2016. To be honest, Maclin and Wallace are very comparable players. Maclin’s departure from Kansas City is similar to how Wallace left Minnesota, at least on face value.

I don’t want to hear that Maclin will break the bank. He will have his suitors but a 29 year old receiver who was just made available in June, isn’t breaking the bank. The Ravens have to be interested in Maclin. If nothing else, he would give the purple and black something tangible.
Ravens Don’t Seem To Be Worried:
The problem here is that we are in June, and the Ravens need for a receiver isn’t new. It certainly feels more urgent with the loss of Dennis Pitta, who just had an 86 game season, but it was a problem before today. The Ravens could have drafted a wide receiver. They didn’t. They could have signed Victor Cruz. Guess what, they didn’t. They could sign Anqaun Boldin, but how long can we wait on that?
When the offseason started we knew they needed a wide receiver added to the roster. They haven’t brought one in. I don’t want to say that Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens don’t care, but they certainly don’t seem worried. At each step of the offseason, getting a receiver was a possibility and they have ignored it. Ravens fans may want Maclin, or honestly any help for their receiving group, but there’s no indication that the Ravens have a move coming. Wouldn’t they have made one by now?

The Bottom Line:
The bottom line is pretty simple. The Ravens could really use Maclin’s services and there is no reason they shouldn’t pursue him. It all depends on the Ravens sense of urgency. Hopefully losing Pitta helps the Ravens see that they need more players for Flacco to throw to. Hopefully Maclin becomes a Raven. Before you get your hopes up, just remember that we’ve begged for a receiver all offseason long.
