Getting Brandon Carr:

The purple and black really must be tired of the secondary holding them back. Newsome and DeCosta managed to get the secondary a lot of help. They did this both in free agency and in the NFL Draft. They got Marlon Humphrey in the first round of the draft. When Tavon Young got hurt, Newsome sprung into action and signed Brandon Boykin. Here was the first move they made at cornerback:

B+. Brandon Carr may not be an elite cornerback in the NFL, but he’s a really solid one. Putting him opposite of Jimmy Smith isn’t a bad idea. Secondly, the Ravens finally have a starting cornerback with durability. Carr hasn’t missed a game in his nine year career. Do you know how rare that is in the NFL these days? Carr is a solid number two corner. If Smith gets hurt, Carr can pick up the slack against the opponents’ top weapon. He is more than capable of holding his own on the outside. Carr may not be the flashiest signing, but you could argue that this was the Ravens most important defensive free agent. The cornerback situation in Baltimore doesn’t look bad, but it hasn’t been great over the past few years. Some help at the cornerback spot is not a bad thing to have. That’s experienced help too..
