The Baltimore Ravens offensive line is the top concern going into the season. What if the offensive line is better than you think it is?

The Baltimore Ravens offensive line is missing a starting center and a starting right tackle. At least, that’s what the general consensus seems to be. What if I told you that the Ravens have the answers to both positions? What if I told you that the offensive line is less problematic than most people think it is?

The number one reason the offensive line will fix itself is simple. The Ravens’ plan is not a viable one. This may seem counter intuitive but let me explain. It is inevitable that James Hurst is not going to work at right tackle. The Ravens may be intent on starting Hurst, but I don’t buy for a second that this plan will last long. The only other option on the roster is Alex Lewis.

I think Alex Lewis could be a great guard, but right now the Ravens need him to be a tackle. They need to kick him out to the right side of the line, because everything will fall into place if they do.

Nico Siragusa looks the part. As a rookie starter at guard, Siragusa would boost the run game and do reasonably in pass protection. If you don’t believe me, just watch what he did at San Diego State.

If the Ravens make this sensible change of paths, the offensive line could be great. Ronnie Stanley impressed in his rookie season. Lewis is a good player at guard or tackle. Marshall Yanda is incredible. If John Urschel can man the center position, which he has in the past, the Ravens problems essentially vanish.

The bottom line:

The Ravens offensive line has the pieces, John Harbaugh and company just have to put them in the right place. They started two rookies last season (Stanley and Lewis) so don’t give me the Siragusa is a rookie argument. He’s ready to play.

Moving Lewis to the tackle position shouldn’t even be a question or a debate. If James Hurst is the plan at right tackle, his incompetence will force the Ravens hand. By going with the most sensible fix, the offensive line will fix itself.
