The defense might be in trouble:

The defense gave some serious warning signs last preseason. It ended up being the strength of the team. The Ravens had a top 10 defense last season, but you wouldn’t have guessed that by watching the preseason. Cam Newton and the Panthers marched down the field against the Ravens with ease to start the preseason. The next week the Colts offense got way too much confidence from whooping the Baltimore  defense.

The bulk of the talent was on the defense. Baltimore expected to be a good defensive team. However in the preseason, the offense gave more reason for optimism than the defense did. The preseason saw the secondary get burned, the defensive front to be soft and frustrations to be high. The Ravens defense was maybe playing uninspired football, but it was certainly vanilla scheme.

Last year’s preseason gave a really untrue look at what the Ravens were going to be. The moral of the story is that we cannot overreact to everything we see in the following weeks. We have to analyze the action. That’s what we’re here for. Just remember that you have to take the preseason with a grain of salt.
